All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His final Messenger, Muhammad ﷺ, the mercy to all of creation.
The life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is not merely a story from the past; it is a timeless guide, a source of light, and a practical example for every human being seeking purpose and direction. His Seerah (biography) is the living Qur’an, embodied in words, actions, and character, offering solutions to the moral, spiritual, and social challenges of every age.
This two-hour introductory session is designed to take you on a journey to understand what Seerah is and why it holds central importance in the life of a believer. We will explore:

Early life of the prophet
The Early Life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
The early years of Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ life are a story of light emerging from hardship, preparing the greatest man to walk the face of the earth for his mission of mercy. Born in the noble tribe of Quraysh in the year of the Elephant (‘Aam al-Feel’), his arrival was marked by signs of divine protection and purpose.
His father, Abdullah, passed away before his birth, and his mother, Aaminah, left the world when he was only six years old. Orphaned so young, yet never abandoned by Allah, the Prophet ﷺ grew under the care of his loving grandfather Abdul Muttalib and later his uncle Abu Talib. These early trials nurtured in him a deep empathy for the weak, the poor, and the marginalized.
As a child, he was sent to live in the desert with Halimah Sa’diyyah’s family, where he experienced the simplicity and purity of Bedouin life. Here, he was known for his noble character, truthfulness, and humility—even as a young boy.
Throughout his youth, he was shielded from the evils and corrupt practices of pre-Islamic Arabia (Jahiliyyah). While others indulged in idol worship and immorality, Muhammad ﷺ was distinguished by his honesty, trustworthiness, and contemplative nature, earning him the title Al-Ameen (the trustworthy).
By the time he entered adulthood, his character was already shining like a beacon in a world steeped in darkness. These early years were not ordinary—they were divinely orchestrated to prepare him for the greatest responsibility: delivering the final message of Allah to humanity.
Life in Makkah
Life in Makkah
The life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in Makkah can be divided into two phases: before prophethood and after receiving revelation—both of which laid the foundation for his mission as the mercy to mankind.
Before Prophethood
In pre-Islamic Makkah, a city immersed in idol worship, social injustice, and moral decay, the young Muhammad ﷺ stood out as a man of truth, dignity, and compassion. He earned the trust of his people, who would call him Al-Ameen (the trustworthy) and As-Sadiq (the truthful). As a merchant, he displayed unmatched honesty in trade, and as a family man—married to Khadijah (RA)—he was a model of loyalty and love.
In his solitude, he often retreated to the Cave of Hira, reflecting on the state of humanity and yearning for guidance from the Creator. This contemplative phase culminated in the momentous event of the first revelation, when Angel Jibreel (AS) brought the command: “Read in the name of your Lord who created.” (Qur’an 96:1)
After Prophethood
With this divine mission, life in Makkah changed forever. The Prophet ﷺ called people to the oneness of Allah (Tawheed), to justice, mercy, and purity. However, the Quraysh elites, fearing the loss of their power and privilege, resisted fiercely. They mocked, tortured, and boycotted him and his followers. Yet, his patience, wisdom, and unwavering reliance on Allah shone through every trial.
In Makkah, he established the foundations of faith, taught his companions to embody truth and steadfastness, and prepared them for the eventual migration to Madinah, where Islam would flourish as a complete way of life.
The Makkah period was not only a test of endurance but also a blueprint for believers on how to uphold faith under pressure, how to engage in da’wah with wisdom, and how to place trust in Allah against all odds.
After Hijrah
Life After Hijrah: The Madinah Period
The Hijrah (migration) from Makkah to Madinah was not just a physical journey—it marked the beginning of a new chapter for Islam and the believers. In Madinah, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ transitioned from being a persecuted messenger to the head of a growing Muslim community, laying the foundation of an Islamic society based on justice, mercy, and submission to Allah.
Building a Community
Upon arriving in Madinah, the Prophet ﷺ established bonds of brotherhood (Mu’akhah) between the Muhajirun (migrants) and the Ansar (helpers). He built Masjid al-Nabawi as the spiritual and social center of the city. The Constitution of Madinah was drafted as a pioneering document granting rights and responsibilities to Muslims, Jews, and other groups, ensuring peaceful coexistence and mutual cooperation.
Defending the Faith
The Madinan period was marked by external threats and battles, such as Badr, Uhud, and the Battle of the Trench, as the Quraysh and other tribes sought to destroy the Muslim community. Yet, through divine help, strategic wisdom, and unity, the Muslims overcame these trials. The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah became a turning point, leading to the eventual conquest of Makkah without bloodshed.
The Completion of the Message
In Madinah, the laws of Islam were gradually revealed—covering acts of worship, social justice, family life, trade, and governance. The Prophet ﷺ served not only as a religious leader but also as a statesman, judge, and commander. His character of mercy, humility, and justice won the hearts of even his staunchest enemies.
Finally, in the 10th year after Hijrah, he delivered the Farewell Sermon, summarizing the universal principles of Islam, and soon after returned to his Lord, leaving behind a legacy that continues to guide humanity.
The Madinah phase teaches us how faith can transform individuals and societies, showing the balance between spiritual devotion and worldly responsibilities.
